Lift Off will launch the artwork of eighteen new MFA graduates. Work will include the complete gamut of media, including photography, sculpture, painting and new media installations. The work of emerging artists is not only innovative and fresh, but is a glimpse into the upcoming trends in the art of tomorrow. The MFA program at San Jose state has a reputation for craftsmanship in all media, pushing its students to explore cutting edge tools and materials to present work that is rich in content. The students are encouraged to develop their work in the context of art historical precedent as well as contemporary theories and climate. San Jose State University is also internationally renowned for its strong program in digital art, known as CADRE. The artists to be included in Lift Off are: Pilar Aguero-Esparza, Justin Amrhein, John Bruneau, Martins Bluzma, Adam Caldwell, Richard C. Clapp, Sara Cole, Vera Fainshtein, Kanako Ota, Tai Pomara, Kevin Powers, Cynthia Siegel, Shelby Smith, Keith Southern, Skyler Thomas, Terry Thompson, Gaku Watanabe and Michael Weisert.
