In Suspended Series Amy Hicks uses the automobile as a way of moving the viewer through contemporary structures and space. The familiar terrain is altered and manipulated into an ethereal experience of fantasy and discovery. Hicks focuses on the horizon: “the intermediary between atmosphere and soil.” Her abstractions turn our daily ritual of driving into rhythmic, hypnotic experiences that conjure up images of flight, the future, and the cosmos. Hicks is interested in the relationship between the use of technologies in daily life and the evolution of human behavior. In this series she uses transportation to address the “producer/consumer cycle” and “create new relationships to abundance.” The |
