The
ICA's new Print Center provides a studio in the South Bay for education,
experimentation and production of artworks in a progressive printmaking
environment located within one of the region's leading contemporary
art venues.
The
Print Center is equipped with a Charles Brand electric etching press
with a 32 x 60 inch bed. The studio has all the necessary equipment
and tools for monotype and intaglio with either oil-based or water-soluble
inks. We use an acrylic ground etching method in ferric chloride
and endeavor to use non-toxic and safe methods and materials whenever
available. The studio accommodates 6 artists.
The
ICA Print Center also hosts an artist-in-residence
program. Each year four established artists are invited
to participate in self-designed residencies. These artists work
directly with our master printer to create a suite of monotypes,
an edition of etchings, an artist book, or another print-based project
of their choosing.
Ema Harris-Sintamarian, the first ICA Print Center Artist-in-Residence,
works on her copper plate etching.
